Hi there. I decided on adding a new guitar to my collection : a Fender Jazzmaster (Mexican). I saw a very nice one in second hand for 1100€ (955£). The guy who sells it made some upgrades : Q pickups A5 58 and a Staytrem UK Bridge. Any thoughts on these upgrades anyone? And maybe other things you should check out when purchasing a Jazzmaster? I’m not really that much into the technicalities of the guitar so I wanted to check out with you guys I will be testing the guitar out this Thursday. Thanks! Roel
Sounds like a really good price if it includes those upgrades too! I also upgraded my jazz master with the Staytrem bridge and the staytrem tremolo arm also… it made a definite improvement to the guitar and its playability. I’m no Jazzmaster expert so hopefully someone else will chime in with more buying advice too!
I’d like to get a Jazzmaster at some point as well. I have no advice, I’m sure it’s a great guitar! I did read that Bill Frisell uses a Mastery bridge in his Jazzmaster, I think.
I know it’s an old thread, but just thought I’d chime in with some other tips.
I’ve had a few different Jazzmaster-style guitars and really like the Mastery bridge and tremolo system - Offset Guitar Bridges | Offset Hardware + Parts | Mastery.
The Descendant system is also very good - https://swope-guitar-shop.myshopify.com
I’ve never had the chance to try Staytrem.
Personally, if the guitar was everything I wanted in terms of color, pickups, vibe, etc. but didn’t have either of these trem systems on it, I’d probably swap one of these on immediately after purchasing. Otherwise, I’d prefer to find one that’s already been upgraded with one of these systems (the system that comes from recent Fender-made guitars is not bad, in my experience – I just don’t like the feel nearly as well as these alternatives).
