Wow that looks awesome John!.. Iāve always heard great things about Ron Kirn. I bet itās a beaut to play and hear! Thanks for sharing
Hey thereā¦Iāve been on Alexās Patreon for a little while, but am new to the board also. Hereās my main guitar - a '59 Esquire.
Itās a toploader just like Jim Campilongoās (just missing a neck pickup) and is all original except for the switch tipā¦so basically a partscaster

If you want to hear it, hereās a video made when it was up for sale. I love this thing.
woah, that is absolutely stunning! Love a good esquire!
I am new here so I just thought I would share the wealth.
Based on existing site content, I plan to use 2 main guitars
- An Ibanez AG95QA hollow body (for a clean tone)
- A Danelectro 64XT (for a country twangy tone) - Has a P90 Neck and Lipstick humbucker bridge that is split coiled.
I also have use of my sonās '97 Lonestar Stratocaster (having a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker bridge and two Texas hot single coils in middle neck. To my ears, this guitar sounds far superior to the Danelectro.
Question for this group is how to make the Danelectroās tone surpass the stratocaster???
Ooh man, some lovely guitars there to cover a range of tones and styles! I donāt have any real experience with the Danelectro guitars, so canāt make any useful suggestions re; how to improve on its tone other than changing the pickups. I bet thereās a ton of options out there⦠probably one of those google search rabbit holes to explore!
Thanks for sharing your collecting Wayne!
Pulled out ye olde Duo Jet for a snowy Colorado dayā¦playing through a newly acquired Chase Bliss Generation Loss MK II. Magical little box.
Seriously cool pic of a seriously cool guitar!
Some folks were talking about guitars with TK Smith pick ups. Here is a 50ās Gibson ES-295 that I found totally stripped to bare wood with no hard ware. It has a funky neck reset that is epoxied. I have set it up so that it plays quite well. I lucked into a set of TKās CAR pick ups. It needs to be refinished and I am working on getting a Paul Bigsby style pick guard make by a friend of mine. Hereās a video of one of my tunes.
Nice guitar. Iād like to have a go on that. Also, I see an old bass drum in the corner.
Man, Patrick, sorry Iām so late to this! Dude, your playing and tone is just beautiful
Thank you Alex, that means a lot coming from you.
Patrick, I canāt remember if Iāve ever said hello or realized there was somebody here from Colorado. Iām in Denver. Whereabout are you in Colorado?
Hey Che,
Iām north of you in Westminster. I just moved at the beginning of the year from Florida. Iām loving Colorado. Iād love to get some tips on the music scene. Iām crazy busy with work right now so I donāt have much time to get our of the house, but one dayā¦do you play out?
Sweet! Reminds me of Twangero Diego Garcia
Iām in Littleton. I can give you whatever tips I have. I used to play out here but it was a while ago and have been looking into it, but things are kind of slow here post-COVID. It depends on what you are into. Letās make a plan to connect one day soon. I assume we have musical interests in common.
Coincidentally - Denverās best bars and restaurants with live music.
Thatād be great. Right now I am really slammed with work and constantly playing catch up, but Iād love to connect sometime.
Thank you. I totally love what Twangero does. Do you know about his cousin (I think?) El Zurdo? He is a fantastic guitarist. In truth Iām not crazy about his vocals, but he is a killer player.
Hi Patrick! Iāve been eyeing a duo Jet for so long!!! Thereās just none available around where I live. Which one is it? Recommend it? I donāt have my own electric guitar, but Iām currently lucky to have a 335 on loan. But Iām seriously after a good duo jet!
Mine is vintage from the 50ās (canāt remember the exact year). The older ones often have peculiarities as done mine, but I love it. I tried a modern Duo Jet and it just wasnāt;t what I wanted. I have heard from a freind who has THE best vintage Gretsch guitar collection I know of that getting a model nJet and finding some older dynasonic pick ups will get you the sound of a vintage one. The modern Gretsches since Fender bought the company (which I think was in 2003?) are really well made. I have a Country Gentleman and it is exquisite. I love the Duo Jet. I like chambered bodied guitars a lot. Somewhere between an arch top and a solid body. The dynasonic pick ups are incredible. Not dissimilar to a P 90 but more definition. Hope that helps.
