I live in Monument, CO. Bought the 335 from a gent who was friends with the owners of Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, CO. They notified him when the 2013 shipment came in from Gibson, and he got to play all the Benchmark collection 335s. He picked out the best one. He posted it on Facebook Marketplace. I met him at the Guitar Center on County Line Road. We went in the Platinum Room under the guise of checking out some of the nice amps in there. I played his 335, and compared it with a new one for sale at Guitar Center. His sounded so much better! He sold it to me for $3500, which was close to the cost of the new one of shelf.
Cool story. Iām curious, did the seller buy it from W.W. and then immediately put it on the Marketplace?
I bought Tommy Harkenriderās Cromwell. That picture is the one from his videos. I didnāt get it directly from him, but he recently sold it and I told him I was casually looking around for something like it and he connected me with the new owner who then sold it to me. It was very fortunate timing.
Noā¦had it 10 years. Older gent that is about to embark on a lot of traveling. A real good player and quite a character!
I thought Iād post some pictures of a partscaster I put together recently, ofcourse nothing like the real deal, but so far Iām happy with it, itās always open for alterations, thatās the advantage of a home project of course.
Specs:
- burned pine body
- Roasted maple neck, rosewood fretboard, bone nut
- Wilkinson bridge with compensated brass saddles, stringed as toploader
- Charlie Christian style neck pick-up
- (For now, no bridge pickup)
- gotoh locking tuners
- knobs and things I had lying around.
The setup is not yet where it should be, but Iām alll figuring that out as I go, Iām no luthier for sure!
I might add a bridge pickup in the future. I have only recently become a telecaster devotee, (thanks to Alex and Jim Campilongo), so I would like to buy a good one, but man is that hard to choose! ![]()
This one cost me a total of 350⬠I think.
Anyway, let me know what you think!
That looks soooo good! Wow! Great work!
Thatās a beaut, Geert! Can I place my order here? ![]()
Thatās a great spec for a jazzy Tele. Well done sirrah!
I know itās not extremely active here, but wanted to show off. Traded two of my acoustics for a Collings 001 and a 2005 LP Custom. Never thought Iād ever own a LP, and playing it feels a bit like it owns me, but I now have this setup in my bedroom. A blond and two dark horses.
Having these two black ones make me feel my teens as a goth metal head are still with me as I practice spread triads and try to make my way through this or that standard.
Rock on fellas!
Hereās my LG-2 (from the 50ās) complete with adorable, small black dog with white beard to match Alexās pic. I love small bodied acoustics! They have even tone across the frequency spectrum and they are punchy! So much better for finger picking in my opinion.
haha awww thatās a great photo! We have eerily similar tastes in just about everything! ![]()
Lovely LG2.. Iām still on the lookout for one of those, as well as an old J45. I agree about the smaller bodies though, the B25 is super punchy!
Whatās your pups name? My little one is Edie after Edith Piaf. Sheās full grown at 7.5 lbs. I love her more than most anything in the world. Guitars are cool too.
Itās funny I have by happenstance ended up with very similar guitars to my hero Marc Ribot. I saw him play solo on an LG-2 years back. He of course brought things out of that guitar that were pure magic. He played several tunes composed by John Zorn that had balloons that he would rub against the strings, pop by stomping on them etc. Then heād play these sweet tunes by Cassius and his own delightfully mysterious work.
Congrats on your new axe. and thanks as always for your lessons. Itās a treasure trove.
Inspired by Alexās new B25 (congrats, it looks and sounds amazing!).
Hereās the ā53 J45 I scored late last year. It needed a lot of work when I found itā¦.was barely playable and had no strings on it. I strung it up briefly though (half a step down) and hit an E chordā¦.and that was enough! So I took the plunge and took it to a luthier, and a few months later got back the most incredible guitar. I think Iāve played it every day since.
p.s. Iām enjoying the Old Timey Country Bluegrass Chord Study! at the moment, maybe another similar lesson on the B25 sometime? ![]()
Martin 000-18 (via DI-box)
love them all ![]()
Stunning selection of guitars there my friend! ![]()
Thatās is gorgeous! A dream guitar for me. Love that you rescued it from a bad condition! ![]()
