So, I’m pretty new to guitar. I started two years ago, and I’m in awe of you guys and your decades of playing, gigging, knowledge and skills.
Last night I played in public for the first time, with a band (for the first time), at a blues jam (first time)
I was incredibly nervous all day, but the time came, and 40 minutes in I’m suddenly on stage with a drummer, singer, guitarist, double bass. and harmonica doing ‘Stormy Monday’.
Towards the end of the track, the singer gave me the ‘waited for’ nod, and it was my turn to solo. Somewhat of an out of body experience, I forgot everything I knew, fluffed some notes, but … it was amazing.
I caught that one fateful minute of my first public playing on my phone on the side of the stage.
Compared to most of you I’m lightyears behind, sooo bad… but it was a landmark for me, so I thought I’d share in a post, embarrassed though I am.
And of course a big thanks to Alex - who I’ve been taking lessons from - He’s an amazing player and teacher, and I’ve really valued his support in taking someone new to jazz, blues, and guitar in general, and providing a clear path to help me develop … rather than drowning in a sea of youtube videos, blog posts, and a million things I could learn.
BTW, to share audio here, I created a soundcloud.com account, uploaded the audio there marked it as private, and then pasted the ‘share’ link here just straight into the post. The same is possible for video via youtube.
