Since we are down in South America, I have always enjoyed this song. I guess it’s proto-samba, is that an oboe?

# Cartola - Preciso Me Encontrar

There is some interesting stuff going on in there.

Also, speaking of Argentina, this is a friend of mine who I’m talking lessons with at the moment. He is a monster player. He plays a lot of jump blues in the style of some of the more recent blues players. Huge fan of Junior Watson and Duke Robillard. Things are tough down there at the moment. Not many gigs. Cry for Argentina

Cartola is really famous in the Samba scene. There’s a famous seven string guitarist who played on this song (Dino - sete cordas). Also, it is a Bassoon.

By the way, this is one of my long time Samba favourites.

Matias is definitely impressive…thanks for sharing this. Apologies, I only played the South American folklore styles. For Argentina that is Milonga and Tango mostly.

I guess I’m being a name-dropper. I’m also studying with Tom at the moment. We are family friends and although I can’t play like him we learned a lot about jump blues and Western Swing from each other back in the day…

MAthias is a MONSTER player. No apologies for your preferences. They are what they are and tango and Milonga are great stuff. Mathis hipped me to Roberto Grela and another famous tango guitarist. I can remember who. I used to go to folkloric shows in Argentina. I think they were usually featuring older traditional music. That’s a great music country.

It’s a killer song. Thanks for clearing up that its a bassoon and not an oboe. I really didn’t think it was actually samba.

Getting inspired to try my hand a some surf style. Will be seeing Los Straightjackets on their final tour end of march in Santa Cruz Calif (Eddie Angel still touring):

I’m going to New Orleans next week so listening to Don Vappie, he is the real deal:

What, what what? Los STraitjackets are retiring???

I’ve seen them several times. One of the best shows I have ever been to was when they were touring for this Rock en Espanol album with Big Sandy of the Fly-Rite Boys and Big Sanday was running around in the audience acting the fool and doing copious shots of tequila. It was outragously fun.

That was just my impression/assumption - they are calling it their 30th anniversary tour.

I’m listening to some newer acts with sounds from the past. Marcus King is one of my favourite new artists.

And Gary Clark Jr

I’m seeing both of these guys this summer so really looking forward to that. Last time I went to see Gary Clark Jr, it was at a festival in the Netherlands and the dutch love to talk all the way through concerts so it was ruined unfortunately, but this time is a small venue so I’m hoping it will be great.

I bet they stick around. Besides, we will never know who might actually be behind those mascaras fabulosas ! Last summer, I accidentally ended up seeing them live again. I went to see Elvis Costello not knowing that they were the opening act with Nick Lowe. It was a great surprise.

I like that Patrick, totally my kinda vibe. I shall put it on the list of things to transcribe!
