The playing of Nico Kasanda AKA 'Dr. Nico'

I depart tomorrow on a trip to West Africa, a journey I have wanted to take for decades and pay homage to where so much music, as I view it, is rooted. As I am packing I put a few tracks on of the Congolese guitar player Nico Kasanda, something I had not listened in around 20 years. Man, this guy had some tone!!! Check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVarcrW8Z8o&list=PL133E8633C985138D&index=9

You can read his story here too The story of Africa’s guitar god Dr. Nico, the Congolese innovator admired by Jimi Hendrix | Guitar World

Will check back in when I return late December

Nico is the best. I love his darker, minor tunes. Do you know the band RYCO Jazz? Not Nico but killer band. Here’s a favorite song by them…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2KkyHbiWPg

Great stuff Ron, thanks for sharing this! Amazing!
Have a fantastic trip my friend, and do let us in on some of the stories when you return! :beers:

Just a follow up. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to West Africa. While in Spain my wife took ill and we were unable to continue to Senegal and had to return home. I did get to see some flamenco playing in Cordoba when was fantastic.
