Joel Patterson Christmas Guitar Maestro

I thought folks in this group might really dig Chicago guitar maestro Joel Patterson’s Christmas records. he just released the sequel to his first. He’s a killer player and has several roots records out there and some instrumental Beatles records as well. This guy nails the Les Paul playing style and recording overdub magic. His tone is absolutely to die for.

Hi-Fi Christmas Guitar is a great album, I’ve been listening to it all week. I wasn’t aware he had a second though - I’m going to look it up now. His other albums are good too. For some background on him he did an interview a while ago on Greg Koch’s ‘Chewing the Gristle!’ podcast: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1246721/9932935-joel-paterson.mp3

I’ve listened to this album in July. The new one is great too.

I was fortunate enough to see him on tour with JD McPherson in 2019 just before COVID hit. It was a great show.

I also had the chance to see him play his regular weekly gig at The Green Mill in Chicago a few weeks back. One of my favorite places for music. Joel played his swinging jazz thing, lots of Bill Jennings, some Chet Atkins, Less Paul, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Bryant and Jimmie Rivers. Also, he had his dual lap steel set up with him and played some straight country, Western Swing, Hawaiian and jumped on it during other songs from time to time for accent. I’ve seen him play full pedal steel with a Chicago country band The Western Elstons too.

I think she’s one of the best roots players around today. He can do it all.

I have been listening to Joel’s music via Spotify and following him on Instagram. I actually found the vinyl for Hi-Fi Christmas as a local record shop in Columbus Ohio. Great stuff.

I recently discovered Joel via Instagram. He’s a great player!

He played my town a couple nights ago but I didn’t feel well enough to go… but now I’m kicking myself.

I’ll make myself feel better about it by playing his Christmas albums today, now that Alex single-handedly got me in the Christmas spirit with his Ted Green lesson! :christmas_tree::santa:t2:

He doesn’t tour much. He has a ton of killer gigs in Chicago and worries about others sliding in and taking them I guess. He was interviewed recently and asked why he doesn’t tour much.
